Dr. Salomé Cisnal de Ugarte is a member of Mayer Brown’s Antitrust/Competition and Government/Global Trade groups based in Brussels. She is admitted to the Brussels’ and Madrid bars and specialises in antitrust & competition law, international trade and EU law.
Dr. Cisnal de Ugarte advises international companies on all areas of EU antitrust and competition law (cartels, EU and multijurisdictional mergers, abuse of dominant positions, distribution and licensing practices, and State aid). Her practice also spans international trade negotiations and proceedings, as well as litigation before the European courts. She has particular sector expertise in financial services, consumer goods, media & technology and energy.
Before joining Mayer Brown she worked in the Brussels’ antitrust, competition and trade team of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer and as Director for European & Regulatory Affairs at Whirlpool Europe.
Dr. Cisnal de Ugarte graduated
summa cum laude from the University of Deusto (law and economics), Harvard Law School (LLM) and the European University Institute (PhD). She also been an Associate of the Real Colegio Complutense at Harvard and a Fulbright scholar. She speaks Spanish, German, English, Italian and French.
Dr. Cisnal de Ugarte writes and lectures frequently on issues of competition and trade. She also holds a position as Adjunct Professor at IE Law School and is a Fellow of the Center for European Studies/IE in Madrid. She has been quoted by recognised publications such as
Juve Handbuch,
Iberian Lawyer, and the
Global Competition Law Review. She has received the
ILO EU Competition Lawyer of the Year Client Choice Award in 2013.
