Paul Theiss is Chairman of Mayer Brown. He has served on the firm’s Management Committee since 2009 and previously served as a co-leader of the firm’s global Corporate & Securities practice. He has been recognized for a number of years as one of the leading lawyers in the United States in the M&A and capital markets areas by a variety of publications, including Chambers and International Financial Law Review. He advises clients on both public and private mergers and acquisitions and serves as general outside counsel to numerous companies as they develop and expand their growing businesses, advising on matters ranging from corporate governance to regulatory filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Ken has been Managing Partner of the firm since June 2009 and is a leading member of Mayer Brown’s prominent Supreme Court & Appellate Practice. Ken has held several leadership positions at Mayer Brown.  Most recently he was vice-chairman of the firm, and prior to that appointment he served as the Partner-in-Charge of our Washington DC office where he successfully led the office through a period of rapid expansion.  Ken was a member of the firm’s prior governing body, the Policy & Planning Committee, starting in 1995. Prior to joining the firm, Ken served as Deputy Solicitor General of the US Department of Justice (1979–1986) and as Assistant to the DOJ’s Solicitor General (1975–1979).  Described by Chambers USA as “a standout lawyer in a very talented group . . . extremely experienced and seasoned, with superb judgment.” Ken has written or edited some 300 briefs and certiorari petitions and argued more than 40 cases before the US Supreme Court.
